Personal - Week 2

Things have picked up some this week. Trying to figure out how to balance work, exercising, socializing, class, and personal work has become an annoyance. Due to anxiety, I like to have everything planned out for my day or week; I really hate unplanned and unorganized events and activities. After getting out of class or coming home from work I always want to work out, but other activities come up that I feel like I cannot turn down since I still do not know everyone in the group.

On Tuesday morning we had class like usual. Afterwards, I tried to organize a group to play volleyball on the sand court. Only four other people showed up so playing with teams of two people against three did not go very well. We looked like clumsy cats with two left feet as we would sink into the sand trying to run towards the ball in attempt to hit it over the net. It was all fun though! Hopefully more people will join next time so the teams are much more even. Since it was so hot, we decided to go to the pool for a little while and hang out with others on our program. Later that evening we went to the Writers Guild of America to sit in on a panel with three writers for Jessica Jones. The panel was very interesting and filled with a ton of information. Before going to the panel, I was able to watch the first four episodes of the show so I would not be totally lost. Jessica Jones is very different from any other Marvel show or movie I have ever seen. It is much grittier with stronger female roles than most.

Wednesday after work, a group of us went to a LA Dodgers game against the Washington Nationals. One of my top bucket list items is to go to every MLB stadium in America so you can imagine how excited I was to go to Dodger Stadium! The stadium was pretty cool to see. Unfortunately, we left the the game right before Puig hit a wild walk-off to beat the Nationals 4-3.

Thursday was super cool getting the opportunity to visit Maker Studios. I had learned about Maker last year while I was working at Disney Broadcast Production when my manager gave me the chance to recommend some of my friends who are cinematographers and directors to Maker. It was just super cool to walk through the production studio and then the separate business office. I met a couple Disney Professional Internship Cast Members, which I was super excited by just because I miss Disney so much and always love to speak to Cast Members when I get the chance.

Saturday morning at The Writers Guild of America was super cool to have the chance to hang out in their script library. Of course I had to read a Star Wars script: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. I really want to go back during this trip to spend a few hours going through other scripts, more specifically I really want to read Gone With The Wind. Saturday night was a crazy night at Bootie LA. Lets just say that Bootie LA has not seen the last of Grady LA.

To top of this action packed week, we visited Warner Brothers Studios today for a tour. I cannot say enough about how awesome it was! Visiting the different sets and seeing all the props was mind blowing. I cannot wait until I have the chance to work on a studio lot like Warner Brothers!

Oscars are a lot heavier than they look. It was super cool to
hold a real Academy Award.

Just enjoying some coffee at Central Perk.

Internship - Week 2

This week has been a little different than last week. On Monday, after filing paperwork for about twenty minutes, I asked the CEO if there was anything else I would be doing in my internship. She was very nice and understanding upon asking and said, "yes." We had not had a meeting yet as to what my internship would entail. In the mornings, she said that she would like for me to file and organize for little bit of time and then I will be allowed to work on other stuff such as actor submission and script coverage. The CEO gave me a creative writing assignment after our talk. One of her actors set up a small competition among all the workers at The Robb Company to create a one and a half page script for a new reel for her. I spent the remainder of the day at work working on ideas for the reel and was able to create six situations. A production crew also visited work around 3:30 to shoot part of a pilot that a couple of our represented actors were in. It was pretty cool to see the crew come in to the small workplace and set up the area. It made me really miss working on a set. Wednesday was fairly similar to Monday. I worked on writing scripts for the six ideas that I created for the reels during the entire time I was at work. Due to the CEO having vein surgery on Friday morning, she told everyone that we did not have to come into work, which was really nice to be able to just hang out for the day.

Welcome to L.A.! - Personal

Outside of my internship, life has been pretty cool in LA! Monday night at the alumni panel was really cool and a great opportunity to listen to past Grady students and their story. Most of the Grady alum had been on Grady LA in past years and have moved on decently far in their personal endeavors. Tuesday in class we learned a few things and then later went to the Writers Guild to attend a master class with Mike O'Malley. It was an awesome experience to listen to him. On Thursday in class we watched 'The Hollywood Complex' followed by meeting a child actor who has grown up in the Oakwood Toluca Hills Apartments and has been fairly successful in the entertainment industry. After the Q&A, a group of us went to the pool to relax for a couple hours. After dinner at In-N-Out, a group of us tried to go to a comedy show at the Comedy Store to find out upon arrival that the show was sold out, so we walked around Sunset Boulevard for a little and hung out at a cool bar called The Den. After work on Friday, a majority on the trip went out in downtown LA in the hopes to find a cool bar. Saturday, I got up super early and went to Disneyland by myself. Despite being by myself, I had one of the best day I have ever had at a Disney park. I was able to ride the new Soarin’ Around The World, which was amazing! The rest of the day was absolutely awesome and I barely had to wait in any lines. To cap off the night I had an amazing meet and greet experience with the one and only Minnie Mouse along with watching Paint the Night Parade and Disneyland Forever Fireworks. Visiting Universal Studios Hollywood was pretty awesome today too. It was really cool to see everything on the back lot tour. And on top of the tour, being able to play in the park for the rest of the day while getting to know more people in the group was a cherry on top of my week!

Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, had a favorite horse on King Arthur Carrousel that she would always ride when visiting the park. The thing that makes this horse very different from the others is that it has one gold tooth. To me and many other Disney geeks, this is basically sitting on a national treasure because it is a piece of history.

Welcome to L.A. - Internship

Today was my third day at my internship at The Robb Company as the office manager. On Monday, I did not do very much as Sherry, the CEO, was gone most of the day. I was able to read an interesting script though. On Wednesday, I was a little more productive as I organized paperwork all day. Today, it not much different from Monday as Sherry was gone since before I arrived at work. Since Sherry has not told me all of the details of my job as office manager and no one else in the office knows what I needed to do, I started writing my blog until she came in around 1 PM. I organized some more paperwork and ended my day a little after 4 PM. I have become very wary about my internship as I do not know if it will actually help me towards my major and future in the entertainment industry.
